The kirana origin story.
Our co-founder Ankit grew up in a kirana store in Lucknow. His mother kept the books — by hand, in a 200-page bahi-khata, every evening after closing. In 2014 they moved to Tally. By 2019 they were back to the bahi-khata, because Tally needed a desktop, a license, a CA visit, and three Hindi-to-English translations to record a sale.
That gap — between what a small Indian business can actually use, and what the global accounting world thinks it should use — has been the subject of every conversation MyKharch has had with a customer since.
We started in 2023 with a single rule: if a kirana owner can't onboard in five minutes on a ₹10,000 phone, we haven't built it yet. Three years and 12,400 businesses later, we still measure ourselves against that rule. Some days we pass; some days we don't.
